50th Class Reunions
The first 50th class reunion of Talbot County High School was held by the 1948 graduating class on June 27, 1998 at the Bulloch House in Warm Springs, Georgia. This class had a total of twenty-six graduates with eighteen members attending this reunion. Six members of this class are deceased. These graduates came from all areas of Talbot County Georgia.
The Ramada Inn located in LaGrange, Georgia was the site for the 50th class reunion of the 1949 graduates. This class consisted of twenty-four members and had an attendance of fourteen attending the reunion. Four members of this graduating class are deceased. Members of the 1948 class were invited and a number of them attended this reunion.
Fourteen girls and eight boys made up the graduating class of 1950. Their 50th class reunion took place on May 6, 2000 at the Ramada Inn in LaGrange, Georgia. Four members of this class are deceased. Members of the previous graduating classes were invited to attend.
Joe Hendricks a member of the 1951 graduating class welcomed the members of his class and other prior graduates to their 50th reunion. The LaFayette Inn in LaGrange, Georgia was chosen as the place for this reunion to be held. This class was made up of nineteen members all of whom are still living.
In May of 1952 Talbot County High School had only one senior to graduate due to the twelfth grade being added that year. Ernest Braddy who resided in Woodland, Georgia was the sole graduate. Ernest was invited to and attended the 1953 reunion.
A milestone was made for Talbot County High School when the seniors of 1953 graduated on May 29, 1953. These nineteen students were the first to graduate from the twelfth grade. This class celebrated their 50th class reunion on May 31, 2003 at the Bulloch House in Warm Springs, Georgia with fourteen members present. Five members of this class are deceased. All prior Talbot County High School graduates were invited with some from each class attending. Also invited and attending were students who had attended Talbot County High School with the 1953 graduates but who had moved away prior to their senior year. There was a record attendance of eighthy-nine people at this reunion.
During the program one member from each class of 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1953 lit a candle in memory of their deceased class members. These candles were held in a nineteen-cup pyramid candleholder made especially for this occasion by a member of the 1949 class. Since this memorial service Richard Tefft, class of 1949 and Betty Anne Fielder Buckner, class of 1950 have passed away.
Another note of interest: Emily Buffington Oliver had contacted me regarding a "huge" Talbot County High School Reunion that is being planned for later on this year. This reunion will be focusing on the years of 1958 through 1964. However, if any class who graduated later than 1964 would like to participate you are most welcome. They just need your assistance in aquiring the names and addresses of your class mates. You may contact Emily at THS@aol.com. or her work email address which is: Oliver@opcp.com. More information about this reunion will be posted as plans are finalized.
Another wonderful 50th class reunion was held on Saturday evening, June 5, 2004 at the Bulloch House in Warm Springs. The senior class of '54 hosted this reunion.. This class had a total of 23 members to graduate. During the years since seven members have deceased. Nine members of this class attended this reunion, Dot Middleton Houston was the coordinator and gave each of her class members a CD of the Talbot County High School Alma Mater sung by her church choir. Many other CD's were given away as prizes.
On June 11, 2005 the Senior Class of 1955 held their 50th class reunion in Columbus, Georgia at the Chattahoochee River Front Club. This class consisted of 24 graduates. Since then three members of this class have deceased. Bobby Smith was in charge of this reunion and did an outstanding job. I have not been able to post any pictures due to the fact no one has given me any.
September 5, 2006: Three pictures from the '55 class reunion has been posted (this date) to the website.
It is with regret that I inform you the class of 1956 did not have their 50th class reunion this year. We trust this will not interfer with the "tradition" the previous classes had begun.
